ConnectWise Expands Security Portfolio

ConnectWise this week during its online IT Nation Connect conference announced it has acquired Perch Security, a provider of a security information event management (SIEM) platform, and StratoZen, a provider of a security operations center (SOC) that also has its own SIEM platform.

Perch Security has been a technology partner of ConnectWise for several years, while StratoZen adds new security capabilities to a ConnectWise Fusion platform. Both offerings will become part of the ConnectWise Fortify portfolio of security tools for managed service providers (MSPs) that ConnectWise has been strengthening to help MSPs combat threats to services that have become the focus of targeted cybersecurity attacks.

The provider of remote management and monitoring (RMM) and professional services automation (PSA) tools for MSPs also updated the ConnectWise Manage billing automation engine to add a faster reconciliation option for processing invoices.

In addition, Connectwise made available a pilot program for BrightGauge, a reporting tool, while also moving to make ConnectWise Control, a remote access tool, available within ConnectWise Command, an RMM platform it gained with the acquisition of Continuum.

Finally, a help desk service is being piloted within ConnectWise Automate, an RMM platform it gained with the acquisition of LabTech.

ConnectWise is in the process of rearchitecting its offerings around a common IT architecture that will reduce the level of friction its MSP experience when employing multiple offerings, says Jeff Bishop, chief product officer for ConnectWise.

“We’re bringing together 20 different product lines,” says Bishop.

Naturally, it will take some time for ConnectWise to meld source code from 20 different product lines into a single integrated platform. As each offering becomes more integrated the opportunity for MSPs to become more efficient, and by extension more profitable, increases.

Each MSPs will need to decide when it makes more sense to resell a service versus build a capability themselves. However, at a time when many MSPs are under more pricing pressure in the wake of the economic downturn brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, it may be time to reevaluate a portfolio of services. After all, the total cost of maintaining a custom-built service tends to only increase over time.
