Masergy Strengthens Channel Program for SD-WAN Service

Masergy, a provider of a managed software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) service, this week launched a Masergy Zenith Partner Program on the heels of appointing Jim Glackin to be its senior vice president of global channels.

The Masergy Zenith Partner Program provides access to market development funds and marketing templates to enable partners to expand customer outreach at a time when demand for SD-WAN services as an alternative to virtual private networks (VPNs) is rising sharply, says Glackin.

Masergy is also providing expanded training along with additional training and incentives for qualified SD-WAN and unified communications-as-a-service (UCaaS) sales through December 31, 2020.

The company is an early pioneer provider of SD-WAN services. Initially, most SD-WANs have been constructed using appliances that are often delivered as part of a managed service. Masergy is making the case for partners to resell an existing managed SD-WAN service rather than having to make the capital investments required to build one.

That experience provides Masergy an advantage over rivals that are just now beginning to launch managed SD-WAN services, says Glackin.

As competition continues to heat up a flood of demand may also lift all SD-WAN services boats. Many IT teams initially relied on virtual private networks (VPNs) to provide end users working from home with access to applications running in a local data center. However, as more application workloads shift to the cloud many organizations are now reevaluating their approach to remote access. An SD-WAN makes it simpler to access applications running on-premises or in the cloud without having to backhaul cloud networking traffic through a local data center.

That approach also provides the added benefit of reducing costs as requests for accessing cloud applications are routed over a public Internet connection.

It’s too early to say how many partners will prefer to resell an SD-WAN service versus build one. Regardless of the path chosen the one thing that is certain is SD-WANs going forward will play a critical role in the extended enterprise.
