Kaseya Acquires ID Agent to Extend Cybersecurity Reach

At its Connect IT conference, Kaseya this week revealed it as acquired ID Agent, a provider of threat intelligence and identity monitoring software and services widely employed by managed service providers (MSPs).

Announced a few days after disclosing that Kaseya has raised another half billion in funding, Kaseya CEO Fred Voccola says Kaseya has identified security as major opportunity to expand the reach of its IT Complete platform for managing the delivery of those managed services.

To that end, Kaseya has named ID Agent CEO Kevin Lancaster to be the new head of the cybersecurity business for Kaseya.

“Cybersecurity is already a $40 million business for Kaseya,” says Voccola.

ID Agent provides MSPs with two key capabilities. The first is a Dark Web service through which they can discover stolen customer credentials that cybersecurity professionals are trying to sell. Armed with that information, MSPs will find it much easier to gain the attention of the business and IT leaders of a prospective customer, says Lancaster. ID agent also provides a complementary set of simulated phishing attacks and security awareness training campaigns to educate employees that MSPs can offer to their end customers.

“Dark web monitoring is the tip of the spear,” says Lancaster.

Those capabilities complement existing Kaseya offerings that include AuthAnvil Identity and Access Management software to provide multifactor authentication, password vaulting, and single sign-on; Kaseya Security Manager for scanning and securing networks, servers, and endpoints; and Kaseya Patch Management software.

Most MSPs recognize that cybersecurity represents a major opportunity to expand their business. For many traditional resellers, cybersecurity awareness training represents a good place for many channel partners to begin expanding into the realm of cybersecurity.

Obviously, cybersecurity is not for the faint of heart. It requires a 24/7 commitment to deliver managed security services. But channel partners are also realizing that every new IT project can’t go forward until cybersecurity concerns are addressed, so, like it or not, channel partners need to either develop cybersecurity expertise or partner with someone who does.
