RapidFire Tools Expands Compliance Reach for MSPs to HIPAA

RapidFire Tools, a unit of Kaseya, has launched Audit Guru for HIPAA, a service through which managed service providers (MSPs) can automate the processes required for healthcare organizations to meet mandates required under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Most of the controls required to be implemented under HIPAA while numerous are relatively mundane. The Audit Guru for HIPAA is designed to enable MSPs to leverage an Audit Guru Compliance Process Automation platform developed by RapidFire Tools to specifically manage the HIPAA compliance process on behalf of healthcare organizations, says Michael Mittel, president of RapidFire Tools.

At a time when healthcare organizations large and small are struggling to maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations, Mittel says MSPs at the very least should feel obligated to let those organizations know there is an alternative approach.

In fact, Mittel notes that MSPs that service healthcare organizations are usually subject to some HIPAA provisions.

“In many cases, this is about self-preservation for the MSP,” says Mittel.

The tools provided via the Audit Guru for HIPAA platform span data collection, a portal through which to manage compliance processes on behalf of clients, tools for collaborating with clients, checklists, worksheets, archives and forms that compliance officers file with the Federal government. The goal is to make it simpler for MSPs to first provide compliance assessments, followed by ongoing compliance services, says Mittel.

MSPs can perform ongoing HIPAA compliance assessments, risk analyses, update management plans and generate all key documentation required under HIPAA, including a tailored HIPAA Policies and Procedures document and Evidence of Compliance. They can also archive HIPAA compliance documentation for auditing.

Going forward Mittel says MSPs should expect to see RapidFire continue to create offering tailored for various vertical industry segments. RapidFire tools, for example, already has tools for automating compliance processes specified under the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) established by the major issuers of credit cards.

In general, many of the compliance specifications put forward over the years share a common set of controls. As those controls become more widely understood, it becomes simpler for MSPs to automate the management of those controls across a range of vertical industries.
