Impinj Revamps RFID Channel Program

Impinj, a provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, has revamped its channel program as part of an effort to extend its reach to a more diverse set of partners.

The revamped Impinj Partner Network now provides resources for resellers of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, independent software vendors (ISVs), distributors, service providers, and original equipment manufacturers (OE), says Sandy Murti, vice president of partner development at Impinj.

Previously, the Impinj channel program, which already has 800 partners of various types participating in it, had been more narrowly focused on partners that specialized in RFID solutions, says Murti.

That decision is being driven by the fact that the opportunity to apply RFID within the context of other applications and solutions is now much broader, adds Murti.

“Now everything is being connected to the Internet,” says Murti.

As a result, there’s a lot more interest in identifying tracking the physical locations of all the things being connected, adds Murti. Use cases for RFID tags spanning everything from locating and authenticating items such as apparel, pallets, cases, luggage across vertical industries such as retail, aviation and manufacturing.

At the core of the Impinj product portfolio is a RAIN RFID platform made up of endpoints, connectivity, and software. The RAIN RFID platform itself is based on integrated circuits developed by Impinj. The Impinj Partner Network provides channel partners with access to a range of pre-sales, solution design, implementation, service, and support tools.

Obviously, RFID technologies have been around for some time. There are also alternative approaches to RFID tags that are beginning to gain some traction. The opportunity for Impinj and its channel partners is to find ways to expand the use cases for RFID tags that are now substantially smaller than when the technologies were first introduced way back in the early 1970s.
