Barracuda Networks this week announced it has acquired InfiSecure Technologies, a provider of bot mitigation technology that will be incorporated into the web application firewall (WAF) platform the company currently provides within the next three to six months.
Although Barracuda Networks already provides bot mitigation technology in its platform, the rate at which bots are evolving requires ongoing research and development to combat.
The acquisition of InfiSecure Technologies will provide partners with a more advanced bot mitigation service they can resell on top of the WAF provided by Barracuda Networks, says Nitzan Miron, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks.
“It will be a subscription option,” says Miron.
InfiSecure Technologies employs machine learning algorithms to automatically profile each individual application to provide application-specific bot detection and mitigation capabilities.
Most of the cybersecurity attacks launched against organizations are now being automated by bots. As Barracuda continues to invest in combatting those attacks, it creates opportunities for partners to expand the total addressable market for WAFs, says Miron.
The challenge Barracuda Networks and its partners face is only 10% of organizations have implemented a WAF, says Miron. The market is expected to increase to 30% as WAF platforms continue to evolve, says Miron.
The biggest issue is not so much a lack of appreciation for the need for WAFs as much as it is a lack of available expertise to deploy and manage them, notes Miron. That same issue also extends to channel partners that also often lack WAF expertise, adds Miron.
Of course, as organizations increasingly transition to cloud-native applications that lack of WAF expertise is likely to become a more pressing issue. In the meantime, the opportunity for partners willing to invest the time and resources required to master WAFs and other cloud cybersecurity technologies is clearly on the cusp of becoming significant.
