Obsidian has launched a Magma Partner Program to provide channel partners with a security platform for securing software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications they can resell.
The Obsidian platform itself is a (SaaS) platform positioned as the equivalent of an endpoint detection and response platform designed for SaaS applications that can be deployed in a few minutes.
Obsidian currently has about 17 partners that the company is looking to increase incrementally, says Claudia Slane, the global director of channels and alliances at Obsidian.
“I’m not casting a huge net,” says Slane.
The Magma program provides competitive margins that are predicable, enhanced service offerings, and strategic marketing tools, adds Slane.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the number of organizations that employ SaaS applications has significantly increased. It’s now only a matter of time before securing those applications becomes a higher priority. The challenge organizations will soon discover is that each of the providers of those SaaS platforms has a slightly different approach to securing credentials and data. Misconfigured Google Drive accounts, for example, can result in a significant amount of lost data that might be extremely sensitive.
The Obsidian platform streamlines the management of SaaS application security by providing a centralized security platform through which multiple SaaS applications can be monitored.
From a channel perspective, Slane says there is also a significant opportunity for partners that specialize in investigating security events to incorporate Obsidian as part of a larger practice.
Not every channel partner, of course, has the expertise required to create investigative reports. However, there’s still an opportunity for partners to tap into demand for cybersecurity solutions by reselling a SaaS platform that doesn’t necessarily require a lot of expertise on their part to drive revenue. In fact, channel partners don’t necessarily need to have a lot of expertise themselves if most of their focus is on assisting IT teams that do.
