FireMon Names Channel Sales Chief

FireMon, a provider of firewall management software, has named Andrew Warren to be its vice president of global channel sales. Previously, Warren served as an executive vice president for North America for the distributor Westcon-Comstor Americas, a division of SYNNEX Corp.

Despite fierce competition within the firewall management space, Warren said there is still plenty of upside for partners looking to extend investments customers have made in multiple firewall management platforms. In general, customers that have standardized on a single firewall will use the software provided by the vendor that provided the firewall to manage it. However, most organizations have firewalls from multiple vendors, so there is an opportunity to rationalize the software end customers employ to manage firewalls from different vendors, notes Warren.

At the same time, the types of firewalls organizations are employing is starting to expand. In addition to traditional network firewalls, organizations are finally starting to make broader use of web application firewalls (WAFs) to secure cloud applications. There is a whole new class of firewalls for securing containerized applications that is starting to emerge as well.

As more organizations embrace digital business transformation, there’s also now a lot more focus on cybersecurity overall, adds Warren.

“Digital transformation means there are a lot of new applications,” says Warren.

While there is no doubt the amount of dollars being allocated to cybersecurity has substantially increased, it’s not clear, however, precisely how those funds are being allocated. There are certainly more investments in firewalls, but a larger portion of the cybersecurity budget is also being allocated to malware detection. No one is getting rid of their firewalls. However, there’s an increased assumption that malware has made it past the firewall. As such, a lot of the focus is now on discovering and remediating that malware before it becomes activated.

Regardless of the cybersecurity strategy adopted, the one thing that is certain is IT organizations are looking for more help than ever from channel partners to rise to an ever-increasing complex cybersecurity challenge
