Axcient Strengthens Data Protection Hand for MSPs

Axcient has upped its managed services game with an update to its data protection platform that significantly improves recovery time objective (RTO) performance for its partners.

At the same time, Axcient has also reduced the total cost of ownership (TCO) of its cloud platform by making available unlimited storage and adding appliances that featuring hot-swap drives and support for the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) to enhance monitoring capabilities.

Axcient has also been very competitive when it comes to recovery point objective (RPO), says Angus Robertson, chief revenue officer (CRO) for Axcient. This latest release closes a long-standing RTO gap compared to rival data protection platforms designed specifically for managed service providers, says Robertson.

Those moves coincide with a decision to also to reduce the number of Axcient stockkeeping units (SKUs) MSPs need to navigate to acquire an appliance, adds Robertson.

“We reduced the portfolio to four SKUs,” says Robertson.

At a time when ransomware attacks are increasing the level of customer awareness of managed data protection services, the RTO capabilities of a data protection solution have become a more critical metric. Organizations that rely on MSPs to protect their data in the wake of a ransomware attack tend to be in a ihigh state of anxiety. How quickly an MSP can recover their data is now almost as important as how much of that data can be recovered.

It’s not clear to what degree RTO concerns might entice an MSPs to switch data protection platforms. But as the number of MSPs entering the market continues to increase, RTO will be a metric receiving a lot more attention during any evaluation process.

In the meantime, all that increased competition also tends to make MSPs a lot more sensitive to costs as the pricing pressures on data protection services continues to steadily increase.
