As the collaboration and video conferencing platform provided by Zoom Video Communications continues to find wider adoption the ecosystem surrounding the companies is starting to expand.
Zoom has formed an alliance with Dropbox through which the two companies will integrate workflows across their disparate cloud services.
In addition, Zoom unfurled a marketplace through which third-party applications vetted by Zoom can be downloaded and developed hardware alliances with AVer, Crestron, Dell, DTEN, Logitech, Polycom, and Suirui, all of which have developed devices that integrate with the Zoom Rooms cloud service. Those devices are now available via distributors that include Ingram Micro Inc., Starin, and Tech Data – Maverick AV Solutions as well as national resellers such as CDW and Think Fast Track.
Companies that are making applications available in the Zoom marketplace include Clara Labs, Egnyte, HubSpot, Hugo, Microsoft Teams, Otter.ai, Slack, and Theta Lake.
At the same time, Zoom Video Communications is branching out into the realm of DevOps via an alliance with Atlassian. The core idea is to make it simpler for DevOps teams to collaborate using video within the context of the DevOps tools provided by Atlassian.
The goal is to make the company’s cloud service ubiquitously available as possible using software development kits and application programming interfaces (APIs), says Nitasha Walia, senior product manager for Zoom Video Communications.
“That includes a Zoom appliance that can be deployed by a partner,” says Walia.
Many partners already have practices built around enabling video conferencing within an on-premises IT environment. The hardware platforms being developed by technology partners will enable partners to extend that expertise in a new direction, says Walia.
To complement those efforts Zoom is also gearing up to deliver Zoom Voice, a cloud-based phone system that will be available as an add-on to Zoom’s video communications suite. Intended to replace legacy PBX systems, Zoom Voice provides support for inbound and outbound calling through the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Zoom Voice will be generally available for North American customers in the first quarter of 2019 with support for localized telephony services in 16 countries. The service will roll out globally throughout the rest of 2019.
Zoom Video Communications has been building out its channel now for the last several months. With these latest initiatives, it’s now easier to see where the extent of those ambitions for the channel now lie.
