HotLink Applies Analytics to Data Protection Services

HotLink has developed a new approach to cybersecurity that analyzes data to identify anomalies in data stored on a cloud service.

Currently being tested in collaboration with members of the Veeam Alliance program, the cybersecurity technology developed by HotLink enables service providers to identify, for example, the presence of malware once data has been backed up or replicated to a cloud service, says HotLink CEO Lynn LeBlanc.

Under development for the past two years, the approach developed by HotLink applies analytics to raw bits once they are stored by the cloud service provider, says LeBlanc.

The core issue that HotLink is trying to address that data often winds up being unrecoverable when stored in the cloud because malware that was present in the on-premises environment was transferred to the cloud along with a copy of the local data set, says LeBlanc. The issue that service providers frequently encounter is it may be months before anyone tests whether the data stored in the cloud can be recovered. The Hotlink approach analyzes data once transferred to identify potential issues before is it needed to be recovered, says LeBlanc.

Do you have the resources you need to run and manage your channel partners?

If not look no further than Gorilla Onboard.  For over 25 years they have been providing the services and talent the drives the channel. Partner recruitment services, Channel Account Managers, and Partner Marketing Management are just a few of the services they provide.

That approach also eliminates the need to spin up virtual machines set up a sandbox to test whether data can be recovered before making it available to an end customer, adds LeBlanc. In fact, LeBlanc says service provider can now correlate data against threat intelligence or analyze digital fingerprints applied to data to ensure it’s not been tampered with once stored in the cloud.

That capability will, in turn, make it more practical for service providers to build a practice around disaster recovery-as-a-service (DRaaS), adds LeBlanc.

“Until now, testing DRaaS has been impractical at scale,” says LeBlanc.

It may take a while longer for the HotLink approach to analyzing data to become widely available at scale. But it’s clear that analytics is about to transform data protection as it’s once been known in the service provider community.
