Solarwinds MSP Launches Online Community for MSPs

Solarwinds MSP has launched an online community through which managed service providers (MSPs) will be able to access tips and share insights concerning how to optimally manage their business.

The MSP Advice Project is not so much focused on providing technical advice as much as it will be on providing a mechanism through which partners will be able to share best business practices with one another, says Stacy West, vice president of marketing for Solarwinds MSP.

To jumpstart that effort SolarWinds MSP is providing educational content and videos that provide, for example, advice on how to land new customers, says West.

Solarwinds MSP expects MSP Advice Project will fill a current hole in the MSP community, says West. There are plenty of technical sites focused on how to maximize the value of a product or service, but information about how to manage an MSP business tends to be sparse, says West.

West notes that despite the level of competition that might exist, MSPs continue to exhibit a proclivity towards sharing best practices.

“They tend to want to collaborate with each other,” says West.

MSPs tend to have a mutual self-interest when it comes to expanding the overall size of the available market. In general, somewhere less than a quarter of all IT services are delivered by MSPs. The rest continue to be managed by internal IT organizations. More channel partners than ever are now providing managed services in the hopes of driving recurring revenue streams. The challenge they face is getting organizations that still tend to think of consuming IT in a break/fix model to shift over to a model where they consume IT as a true service.

Naturally, achieving that goal will require arming MSPs with a compelling economic argument. Otherwise, all the investment in IT expertise the MSP isn’t going to provide that much of a compelling return on investment.
