Commvault Names New Channel Leader

At a time when organizations of all sizes are paying a lot more attention to how they secure, protect and analyze data, Commvault this week appointed Owen Taraniuk to be head of worldwide partnerships and market development. In this post, Taraniuk will be responsible for indirect partnerships and Commvault’s global go-to-market (GTM) strategy.

Ralph Nimergood, the current channel chief for Commvault, will now serve as Taraniuk’s chief of staff as well as lead the developing a global shared services group within the Worldwide Partnerships & Market Development Group.

The most immediate priority from a channel perspective will be to improve sales enablement, especially says Taraniuk when it comes to monetizing the alliances Commvault has in place with Cisco, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) and Google.

Thanks to the rise of ransomware Taraniuk notes there’s now a lot more focus on secondary storage systems to make sure pristine versions of an organization’s data are always available.

At the same time, interest in applying machine and deep learning algorithms against data that is primarily stored on secondary systems in rising as well. In fact, late last year Commvault announced an alliance with Lucidworks, a provider of advanced analytics software that makes algorithms more accessible.

Taraniuk says organizations are now looking towards solution providers more than ever to both protect their data and help them derive more value from it.

“Data is now both a liability and an asset,” says Taraniuk.

Competition among providers of secondary storage systems is already fierce at a time when much of that data is being transferred into the cloud for safekeeping at a lower cost per gigabyte. Commvault is betting that partnerships with cloud service providers will become more critical as IT organizations move to embrace hybrid data management strategies spanning multiple cloud and on-premises environments.
