OUR TOP 8 PREDICTIONS FOR 2018

Brett: Number 1. The IT talent shortage.

The shortage of IT talent especially continues into 2018. Partners that continue to invest in the technical skills needed can take advantage of the IT skills gap by delivering complex solutions that struggling enterprise IT departments will not be able to keep up with. And the fight over recruitment of newly minted IT talent will continue to fuel the rising cost of quality talent.

MIKE: NUMBER 2. BUSINESS LEADERS TO HOLD SOLUTION PROVIDERS MORE ACCOUNTABLE FOR OUTCOMES

ORGANIZATIONS ARE LESS INTERESTED IN TECHNOLOGIES. THEY DON’T NEED A TECHNOLOGY ADVISOR; THEY NEED STRATEGIC BUSINESS PARTNERS TO HELP THEM EMPLOY TECHNOLOGY TO DRIVE NEW REVENUE STREAMS.

Brett: Number 3. IoT Goes Big(ger)

Gartner says that there were 8.4 billion connected things will be in 2017, up 31 percent from 2016, and will reach 20.4 billion by 2020.

Service Providers will be critical to enabling the success of IoT.

These devices must all be connected to the internet, managed, and secured while also delivering a high quality of service to end users. How IoT devices will be managed will be a significant concern for the business and Service Providers will be the leaders in ensuring security and reliability.

MIKE: NUMBER 4. REAL-TIME COMPUTING COMES TO THE FORE

REGARDLESS OF WHAT TIME OF DIGITAL BUSINESS APPLICATION INVOLVED, REAL-TIME PROCESSING ENGINES ARE NOW GOING TO BE REQUIRED.

Brett: Number 5.  The Ever-Shrinking Private Cloud

We will see an accelerated migration from the private to the public cloud. The resources; people, knowledge, security concerns and infrastructure need to manage a private cloud will continue to push enterprise to move to the public cloud. Compared to a private cloud, the most obvious benefit to using a public cloud is the savings. With the public cloud, organizations do not have to purchase, install, operate, or maintain servers or other equipment as they would with private clouds. As companies seek to reduce their IT spend, public clouds offer a cost-effective, and in most cases, a more secure environment.

MIKE: NUMBER 6. KUBERNETES DRIVES RISE OF TRUE HYBRID CLOUD COMPUTING

LATEST SURVEY DATA SHOWS SIGNIFICANT SHIFT IN HOW IT ORGANIZATIONS APPROACH IT INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE AGE OF THE CONTAINERS IS ALREADY UNDERWAY

Brett: Number 7. It’s All About the Verticals

Most businesses want to purchase a solution that is tailored to their industry and has shown proven results. The verticalization of CRM software is just one example of this. Many of these vertical markets remain primarily underserved. Thereby offering a significant opportunity for channel partners to capitalize on this shortfall, and customize solutions to meet these market needs.

Mike: Number 8.  IT security transform into a service

The complexity of maintaining IT security is going to increase demand for IT security to be provided as a service, which in turn will impact how the channel engages IT security vendors.
